Obituary for Brian Andrew MacDonald

SKCM Brian Andrew MacDonald (SW) USN RET, 71, died peacefully in his home on 2 November 2019. A veteran of the Vietnam and Persian Gulf wars, he was also the Command Master Chief of USS Iwo Jima LPH-2 from September 1988 to January 1991. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation with Gallantry, Vietnam Service Medal with star, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon with star, National Defense Service Medal with star and many personal awards and citations.

Master Chief MacDonald was born on November 6, 1947 in Danielson, Connecticut to Robert and Joyce MacDonald who preceded him in death. He graduated from Killingly High School in 1965. He then attended the Culinary Institute of America graduating in 1967. He enlisted in the Navy in August 1967. He attended Storekeeper A school and then served several shore commands and then as the Storekeeper Detailer from November 1982 to October 1985. His sea tours were on USS Persistent, Presidential Support Unit, first on the Presidential Yacht Sequoia and then at the White House Staff Mess under Presidents Ford and Carter. He then served on USS Farragut, USS Theodore Roosevelt and USS Iwo Jima. Master Chief MacDonald retired from his last duty station, Commander Surface Force Atlantic on September 30, 1993

Master Chief MacDonald is survived by his best friend, companion and love of his life Kim Womack, her children, son Ashaw Dillard (Shana), daughters Mykhel Dilard and Alexis Dilard and their 6 grandchildren, his sister, Karen Rubino (Ernie Deceased), his children, daughters, Brenda Snyder (Steve), Melissa George (Steve), Joanne Gallogly (Randy), Sara Bost (Nate), son Andrew MacDonald, seven grandchildren, and his extensive Navy family.

Brian will always be remembered for his love God, of family and friends, his passion for music and dancing and to top that off he was funny, he was a real jokester and found humor in everything, always ready with a quip and a laugh.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322. A Reception will follow at the funeral home. Interment will follow at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
