Jack Spruill Blount passed away January 24, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Blount was born on December 22, 1933 in Roper, N.C. to parents, Roy & Mary Christine Blount. He is survived by Phyllis Ann Blount, his "beautiful bride" of 60 years and "the prettiest woman he ever saw" as he lovingly referred to her. Also left to cherish his memory are their children, Wally "Dean" Church and wife, Linda; Christopher Blount and best friend Karen Schachtner; Rebecca Blount Beasley and husband Steve; Donna Blount Maleski and husband Mike; and Amy Blount Bean. Mr. Blount is also survived by his brother, Roy "Dan" Blount and wife Barbara and sister Mary Blount Shepard and husband Paul. In addition, surviving family includes 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Mr. Blount began his adulthood at the very early age of sixteen when he joined the Army and, due to the escalation of the Korean War, was shipped to Korea where he “celebrated” his seventeenth birthday serving his country! His leadership, character, and loyalty were quickly rewarded as he was promoted to Sergeant before he returned home. Once he returned to the States, he began his “crowning achievement” and greatest joy as a husband and father. Mr. Blount was truly an amazing man with many loyal strong attributes and a full life of helping others and sharing his support wherever life led him. He spent his working life in Real Estate. Mr. Blount also founded and operated College Park Skating Rink and Haygood Skating Center in the 1970’s providing much enjoyment for his family and children of that generation. He finished his career as a Realtor and Builder in 2009. A funeral service will be held with Military Honors at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, 23434. Rev. Paul Shepard will officiate. The viewing will begin with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, January 28, 2013 in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, 23322.
