CHESAPEAKE, VA
Kenneth W. Smith, 84, of Great Bridge, went home to the Lord and rejoined his loving wife on Sunday, June 17, 2012 in his home.
Born in Brunswick County, VA, on June 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Lucy C. Smith. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, “Nanny” Jean, daughter, Linda Winter, sister, Francis Novak, and brother, Marion Gray.
“Ken” was well known in the ship repair industry as a “tough” but “fair” hardworking man. He retired from the U. S. Navy after nearly 20 years of service.
He will be terribly missed by those who loved him. “Pa” is survived by his daughter, Donna Lambert and husband Karl; his son-in-law, Donald Winter of Richmond; grandsons, Karl Lambert III and wife Courtney of Suffolk, Kenneth Winter and fiancé April, and Thomas Winter of Richmond, as well as his brother, Frank “June” Smith of Louisa, VA, his sister, Edith “Lanie” Karisky and husband Felix of Hartford, CT, and sister-in-law, Judy Smith of Franklin, VA. Not to forget a very special friend and buddy Tim, his wonderful next door neighbor. Thank you Tim for loving and caring for Daddy!
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2012 in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The Reverend Thomas L. Mercer will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
